The new Continental Athletic Conference offers the largest collection of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics institutions from United States, Canada and a U.S. territory to compete for the 2021-22 athletic season.

The CAC, formerly known as the Association of Independent Institutions, has unveiled its logo and will soon have a new website to highlight information about the conference, its members and its student-athletes.

The conference includes the following 19 member institutions Bacone College (Oklahoma), Cottey College (Missouri), Crowley’s Ridge College (Arkansas), Fisher College (Massachusetts), Fisk University (Tennessee), Florida College, Florida National University, Georgia Gwinnett College, Haskell Indian Nations University (Kansas), Iowa Wesleyan University, Lincoln Christian University (Illinois), Morris College (South Carolina), Northern New Mexico College, Penn State Schuylkill, University of Virgin Islands, University of Victoria (British Columbia), Voorhees College (South Carolina), Washington Adventist University (Maryland) and Wilberforce University (Ohio).

“We believe this new name better describes our collective effort as the NAIA’s largest conference,” Commissioner Ted Breidenthal said. “Over the course of the past few years, the Association of Independent Institutions has made great strides in solidifying its presence as a NAIA conference.”

“Our institutions have evolved from the independent moniker to a collective and committed group that has established scheduling alliances, natural geographical rivalries, and 11 annual premier conference championships. We will continue to serve the NAIA in a unique way by welcoming any NAIA institution.”

The CAC will have conference championships for baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, and women’s volleyball. Conference champions will represent the league in NAIA national tournaments.

Joining Breidenthal on the CAC administrative staff are Meg Schebler, assistant commissioner, Dale Long, sports information director, Harold Hubbard, eligibility chair, and William Lowe Jr., eligibility chair.

The Association of Independent Institutions was started in 2008, with Breidenthal serving as commissioner since that first year.
